Stadstuinderij Buitenleeft

The estate offers various activities centered around a healthy lifestyle and serves as a meeting place for people of all ages to experience the healing power of nature. This fosters greater awareness of our environment and helps you learn to take better care of yourself and nature. Of course, you can also just come to enjoy nature during harvest times or while working in the green gym.

Foundation BuitenLeeft was founded in 2013 by Margriet Knospe, Wichert Noordeloos, and Wendy Bakker with the aim of bringing together and connecting humans, health, and nature, promoting and restoring human health, and stimulating awareness of nature on a healthy earth. We call this 'value for the earth'.

The foundation's mission is: 'to create meeting places for children and adults where they can experience the positive effects of nature on health, thereby relieving themselves of physical or psychological burdens, and learning to sustainably care for themselves and the nature surrounding them.'

Self-harvest garden

Would you like to harvest and eat locally grown, delicious, and honest food? Do you want to know how your food grows? Are you seeking direct contact with the producer of your food? Do you understand that nature takes its own course? Do you want to eat according to the seasons? Do you want to contribute to the value of the earth, such as a sustainable climate, fertile soil, biodiversity, and reducing CO2 emissions? Do you want to avoid wasting food and only take what you need, now and in the future?

Is your answer yes? Then this self-harvest garden through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) something for you! All vegetables and herbs are locally and honestly grown in one large vegetable garden in the open ground at BuitenLeeft Estate on Middelweg in Delft. Of course, without artificial fertilizers and pesticides. Helping in the vegetable garden is always allowed but never compulsory.

How much can you harvest?
The harvest season starts at the end of April / beginning of May (depending on the weather conditions) and usually ends at the end of October. During the season (average 24 weeks), you can harvest 5 vegetables per week, but in the peak season, it's certainly more. Of course, you can take more harvest shares or share a harvest share with someone else. If you want something extra or want to exchange for another vegetable in the harvest that week, you can always discuss that with the gardener."

The healthy lifestyle garden

Through a healthy lifestyle, people achieve a better quality of life, enabling them to fully participate in society. With the rising number of chronically ill individuals, skyrocketing healthcare costs, and the increasing difficulty in attracting healthcare personnel, it's crucial that various demographics also have access to tools that enhance self-reliance, among other things. In this regard, greater use can also be made of the oldest medicine on Earth, namely nature.

BuitenLeeft aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and utilize nature for this purpose. We intend to offer outdoor and indoor spaces for activities that promote a healthy lifestyle. The vision of the concept surrounding healthy lifestyle gardens is based on 7 pillars: sufficient food, workout, positive mindset, nature, relax, community and meaningfulness.
