Het Babyhuis: future for mother and child
The Babyhouse Foundation is an initiative that has been offering care to babies since the end of 2013 in a beautiful building at Brouwersdijk 211 in Dordrecht, for whom mothers temporarily need extra support in caring for their baby. The Baby House offers (temporary) living space, treatment and guidance to heavily pregnant women and women who have recently given birth. We have 26 mother-child units divided over 3 phases from intensive guidance to independence.
The Babyhouse Foundation offers shelter, treatment and guidance to (expectant) mothers to support them in motherhood. We are working on a secure bonding relationship between mother and child and the ultimate goal is that they can live independently in a safe living environment.
Love, safety and warmth are central in the Babyhouse. Mothers find the peace and quiet here to get used to motherhood. In addition, they follow the intensive care program, with the aim of: establishing a secure attachment relationship between mother and child, learning (parenting) skills, providing structure in their own life and that of the child, guidance towards self-reliance, creating a solid financial situation and organizing housing and good daytime activities.
The core team (behaviourist, maternity nurse and sociotherapists) and the team of volunteers work in the Babyhouse. There is care and guidance available 24 hours a day.
The Babyhouse is specifically intended for newborns whose mother cannot yet provide her child with the necessary care and upbringing. But the expectation is that she will be able to do this independently in a relatively short time. Het Babyhuis looks at what the mother needs and tailors personal guidance to each mother and child.
The Babyhouse Foundation wants to offer mothers in an accessible, equal and respectful manner the opportunity to acquire the necessary skills - in a voluntary or compulsory context - so that over time they are able to independently offer their child a responsible future.
Harmony for you and your baby
There are sometimes times in your life when problems dominate your daily life to such an extent that it is difficult to take good care of your baby. At the Babyhouse we would like to discuss how we can get your life back in order. You will also stay in the Babyhouse and receive the necessary guidance and treatment there. The Babyhouse is a homely environment, a place where love and harmony give both your baby and you peace.
Mother-child units
The Mother-Child Unit in the Babyhouse aims to provide (expectant) mothers with shelter and guide them from a safe environment before, during and after the birth of their baby. We are working on a secure bond between mother and child. The mother provides guidance in caring for the baby and building a social network.
The ultimate goal is independent housing within a certain period and a healthy mother-child relationship. Biological fathers can also be involved in the process if desired.
