Villa Ockenburgh: a green oasis
In the enchanting landscape of The Hague, the forces of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Historical Estate Ockenburgh, Villa Ockenburgh BV, and Villa Bijzonder come together to create a unique place. A place where people gather, develop, and relax. The result is a beautiful green estate, excellent catering facilities, opportunities for special events, and a full schedule of socio-cultural activities.
Culinary experience at Villa Ockenburgh
Villa Ockenburgh, the proud catering partner of Estate Ockenburgh, is both a restaurant and an event venue. In the restaurant, you can enjoy delicious lunches, dinners, drinks, and even high tea. The menu, composed of local products and healthy options, is a culinary adventure in itself. But that's not all. In the Greenhouse, an authentic Westland greenhouse on the estate, you can enjoy coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and drinks. The self-service concept makes it easy to order your favorites.
Villa Ockenburgh is not only a place for delicious meals but also an ideal location for events. Whether it's a wedding day, party night, meeting, or networking drinks, Villa Ockenburgh offers a versatile (outdoor) venue for every occasion.
History of Ockenburgh estate
The estate, over 350 years old, is located between Loosduinen and Kijkduin in The Hague. Once owned by the poet Jacob Westerbaen, it now houses a beautiful villa in the middle of the estate. Since 1990, the estate has been a protected natural monument, where visitors can walk, cycle, and horse ride on designated paths for free. The characteristic hyacinth forest, which comes to life with wild hyacinths in April, adds an enchanting element to the estate.
The hyacinth forest and gnome trail
The Hyacinth Forest at Ockenburgh Estate, formerly known as Santvoortsche Bosch, is an oasis of peace and nature. The area, with unpaved hiking trails, is a breathtaking piece of nature in The Hague. In April, the forest transforms into a colorful spectacle with blooming wild hyacinths.
For families and children, there is the Gnome Trail, marked with gnome posts. An adventurous route of about 1 km, suitable for all ages. With gnome hats, magnifying glasses, and treats from the gnome bag, the walk becomes a magical experience.
Learning and work company and agenda of Villa Ockenburgh
On Estate Ockenburgh, there is also a true Westland greenhouse called the Greenhouse of Villa Ockenburgh. Here, families can enjoy fresh coffee, tea, homemade treats, and delicious sandwiches. The Greenhouse is not only a culinary hotspot but also the stage for various activities for children, as well as performances and events. The learning and work company, supported by volunteers, contributes to the preservation of the beautiful Villa Ockenburgh and the estate.
In Villa Ockenburgh, everything comes together: history, nature, culinary delight, and socio-cultural activities. A visit to this green oasis is not only a meeting with the past but also an opportunity to enjoy the present.
