The Oude Molstraat: a historical gem

The Oude Molstraat, along with the nearby Juffrouw Idastraat and Molenstraat, is among the oldest streets in The Hague. Originally, these streets were sandy paths, which can still be seen in their winding shape. Today, the street is home to a wealth of cozy hotels, shops, restaurants, and cafes, making it a beloved spot for locals to frequent.

In the historical heart of The Hague, de Oude Molstraat emerges as one of the oldest streets, with a history dating back to the Middle Ages. Its winding shape harks back to the time when these streets were sandy paths. The earliest mention of the Old Molstraat dates back to 1592, and the name may be connected to the Inn of the Three Moles that stood at the beginning of the street.

Formerly known as Gasthuisstraat, referring to the St. Nicholas Hospice on Grote Halstraat, the street underwent changes in the nineteenth century. The hospice, which once cared for the sick, elderly, and needy, moved to Amsterdamse Veerkade in 1904. The old building was demolished in 1908.
